Travela Receives Pre-seed Funding

Travela, a Dhaka-based travel-tech firm, obtained pre-seed round financing from famous angel investor Mohammad Maaz. The firm is currently worth Tk 5 crore and is fast expanding.

According to a press release, Travela is a short-term accommodation rental platform, which means that anybody with an extra/unused room or apartment may advertise it on the site, and users can book these spaces through the app and receive a place to stay for a few days, weeks, or even months.

When traveling, finding a place to stay is a huge issue. If someone decides to travel somewhere, the first thing they need to do is find a place to stay. Today’s go-to answer is hotel rooms, but hotels have their own set of issues.

Hotels are not widespread, and accommodation rates vary frequently (especially in peak seasons prices go skyrocketing). Travela is a short-term housing rental website where anybody can offer their spare/unused rooms or flats for people to reserve and find a place to stay.

People may hire an entire apartment for less than the price of a regular hotel room, obtain a fully functional kitchen, cook for themselves, and, most significantly, enjoy a home-like warm and welcoming setting.

Ishtiaque Ahmed, COO of Travela,

“As a filmmaker, I had to travel all over the country. Mostly I used to stay at hotels and sometimes at my friends’ houses. This made me realize that staying at houses made much more sense than staying at hotels. That is when I thought to give it a try,” said

CEO of the platform, Saad Rahman said,

I always believed tourism in Bangladesh has tremendous potential. However, due to lack of infrastructure and regulations, our tourists can’t get the full out of it. Travela aims to work on this problem. Our goal is to diversify tourism, democratize its components, and help local economies benefit from it.”

He also added,

“I would like to thank Mohammad Maaz for putting his trust in us. This investment will surely help us build a better future for our tourism industry,”

Travela now operates in six Bangladeshi cities, including Dhaka, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Barisal, and is growing nationally. Travela now has over 15 thousand registered users around the country. The firm has around 500 homes listed on its marketplace, has handled over 1800 reservations, and is rapidly expanding.
