It seems like Shikho is on a funding streak! This Bangladeshi edtech firm devoted to making high-quality education accessible and cheap has announced a fresh seed investment round of $4 million. This comes on top of the $1.3 million it raised in August 2021, bringing the whole round to $5.3 million, the most seed financing a Bangladeshi business has ever received.
Bangladeshi Edtech Platform Shikho Closes Seed Funding Round With $5.3 Million
Wavemaker Partners, a major Southeast Asian venture capital firm, led the investment alongside seven other organizations, including LearnStart, Anchorless Bangladesh, and Vibe Capital. DSG Consumer Partners, Black Kite Capital, Ratio Ventures, and Julian Shapiro, the founder of Demand Curve, are among the new investors.
Shahir Chowdhury, Co-Founder and CEO of Shikho, said:
“Shikho is a purpose-driven company focused on enabling access to exceptionally high-quality learning content and instruction and transforming how Bangladesh learns by leveraging modern technology. We are very proud for launching the first and only personalized, data-driven learning-app available in Bangladesh.”
The statement quoted Paul Santos, managing partner of Wavemaker Partners, as saying,
“Not every student in Bangladesh has access to remote learning tools and quality learning. Many people think that to get good results you just need expensive private or coaching. But through the Shikho app, every student can get quality education from reputed teachers of the country at low cost, at home, on mobile phone or computer.”
Shikho now has approximately 350,000 students in Bangladesh. Shikho offers academic education for SSC, HSC, and University Entrance Exams. The new funds will be used to support grades 6, 7, and 8, as well as vocational and language courses. Join Shikho and learn more!
