When it comes to ICT freelance services, Bangladesh is a worldwide powerhouse. Freelancers from all around the nation no longer have to wait for remittance payments, which addresses a major barrier to their growth. Customers of bKash will be able to simply register for a new Payoneer account or link their current account through the bKASH app’s ‘Remittance’ button.
bKash Brings Direct Remittance Service for Bangladeshi Freelancers
Payoneer, BRAC Bank and bKash attended a virtual event and jointly launched the service. The foreign currency management and international fund settlement role will be played by BRAC Bank as of now.
The service was opened by Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the state minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The event was attended by Russell T. Ahmed, president of BASIS; Rohit Kulkarni, regional senior vice president of Payoneer; Robert Clarkson, chief revenue officer of Payoneer; Selim RF Hussain, managing director and CEO of Brac Bank; and Kamal Quadir, chief executive officer of bKash, as well as senior officials from their respective companies.
From February 10 to 16, 2022, consumers who receive the maximum amount of money each day will be given a mobile phone as part of this launch. During the campaign, a client may only get this reward once.
The amount of money transferred from Payoneer to the bKash account must total more than BDT 15,000 in one or more transactions to be eligible. At the conclusion of the campaign, the winners will receive their awards. In addition, from February 10 to March 10, 2022, bKash is giving a 2% immediate cashback on all Payoneer transactions.
Thoughts from the Minds Involved
Kamal Quadir, the chief executive officer of bKash, stated,
“Riding on the expanding digital infrastructure of Bangladesh, there is ample opportunity to take the country’s freelancing sector to a stronger position in the global market. The easy method of getting payments in their bKash accounts through a regulated process will remove one of the key pain points of freelancers, which is to conveniently receive payment from their clients. This will surely encourage more people to start freelancing as well as help the existing ones dedicate more time and attention to their tasks.”
Zunaid Ahmed Palak thanked the three firms for their contributions and also said,
“Skilled human resources are our greatest strength. Around 6,50,000 freelancers of the country have been contributing 16 percent to the world’s online outsourcing. According to a study by Oxford Internet Institute, Bangladesh is the second largest destination for online outsourcing. During the last 13 years, 2 million young technology based employment have been created with various initiatives and policies of the government, and we are working for further expansion.”
Robert Clarkson, the chief revenue officer of Payoneer, stated,
“Bangladesh is a key growth market for Payoneer globally,” added Robert Clarkson. “We have always believed in the incredible potential of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and this partnership with bKash highlights our commitment to invest in and provide the best solutions for our local customers. Our mission is to be a partner of growth for digital businesses of all sizes, from all corners of the world. We are thrilled to team up with local leaders like bKash and BRAC Bank to empower Bangladeshi freelancers to expand their economic opportunities.”
We can only estimate hopeful things happening in the Bangladeshi freelance scene from now on as more initiatives like these are launched. Check out more about Payoneer, bKash, and BRAC Bank by following the links!
