Two individuals Rupali Chowdhury and Abdul Muktadir with two companies Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) and Snowtex Group won one of the most prestigious Business Awards in Bangladesh for creating jobs and contributions to the society and the economy by an initiative of DHL Express and The Daily Star at the 19th Bangladesh Business Awards.
Rupali Chowdhury, managing director of Berger Paints Bangladesh, received the award in the Outstanding Woman in Business category.
In her reaction, Rupali Chowdhury said,
“I don’t consider myself as a finished product. I consider myself a work in progress. This award is going to inspire me to move further beyond, inspire Bangladeshi people and create jobs,” she said”.
In 2008 she got the opportunity in Berger Paints and even in this pandemic she stood still and made Berger Paint the number one Paint industry in Bangladesh.
Abdul Muktadir, chairman and managing director of Incepta Pharmaceuticals, received the award as the Business Person of the Year.
He started his journey as an entrepreneur in 1999 and established Incepta Pharmaceuticals. Today, his company has 10,000 employees, and the company’s annual turn-over is 2,755 Crore taka.
The Best Financial Institution award went to Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) and the Enterprise of the Year award went to apparel manufacturer and exporter Snowtex Group.
Today Dutch-Bangla Bank managed to have around 5,000 units of ATM network which is Bangladesh’s largest ATM network.
The bank also introduced “NexusPay” a mobile application for the cardless transaction and have invested in many other financial and digital banking services.
Established in 1998, Snowtex has more than 16,000 employees with $250 million annual turn-over. This company also got LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification as a “Green Factory” from the US Green Building Council.
Because of the pandemic the event held virtually and live-streamed on Facebook where the commerce minister Tipu Munshi, Binod Chaudhary the wealthiest and most successful industrialist in Nepal, and along with business Icons of the country, corporate leaders, and eminent citizens were present.

From 2000, DHL Express and The Daily Star introduced these awards to recognize successful businesses that have contributed socially and economically and created many jobs in the country.
Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher of Daily Star in this regards said,
“Each of our business icons and each of our awardees this evening are stories of immense creativity, Courage, Consistency, and perseverance”.
